Obamacare promises…what promises?

Obamacare you lieDemocrats & Obama, gleaming with pride on the day they finally had purchased all the votes they needed to secure passage were hopeful that no one would recall the means needed to justify their ends.  Since many on the left believe healthcare is a “right” then I feel it is a “right” to expose the lies behind the promises sold to the American public. Aside from the “emotional” pleas prominent in all arguments being debated from the left, the realities exposed in these lies truly do make, even the most hopeful Obamacare supporter, emotional as they are left economically and mentally drained.  What with having to divulge so many secrets about themselves, most are too blind to realize what is actually taking place.  We will let them live to regret their decision to expose themselves, naked in personal information, to the benevolent government and IRS.

To highlight, the following promises were made by the democrat party leadership about the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”, commonly referred to as Obamacare.  Since only a handful of today’s millennial’s can scarcely remember last night’s “Duck Dynasty” episode, it’s unfathomable to believe that our reality TV induced society would recall how this bizarre bill became law.  Let’s retrace some the corruption briefly:  the Cornhusker kickback, Louisiana Purchase, Gator Aid, the Stupak 12 (only 3 remain in office), and Bernie’s Sanders $10 billion greaser he secured for Vermont, to name a few, along with myriad lies and misdirection.  Remembering that the House was fully controlled by the democrats in 2009 and with a filibuster proof senate, passage looked simple. That all changed with the special election to replace the deceased Ted Kennedy’s seat that Scott Brown won. Having to use reconciliation, the Senate had to use a bill in its chambers that had already passed the House. Harry Reid gutted that bill, titled “Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act of 2009” (H.R. 3590), and added the components of the Senate passed “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” on December 24, 2009 (60–39). H.R. 3590 passed the house 416-0.  When H.R. 3590 was resubmitted to the House for a vote as “PPACA” it passed 219-212. Amazing, huh?  Further, in order to pass the bill even by the slimmest of margins they had to dupe the public into believing that this would bend the cost curve down, lower premiums, reduce the amount of uninsured, allow you to keep your plan & doctor and not add to our already exploding deficit.  Oh, and the biggest one of all…it’s NOT a TAX!

Below are the promises and then the realization that each of them were a lie.  We set out to provide you an ‘in their own wordspromise followed by either their own words exposing the lie or a government agency or independent analysis exposing the lie.

Let’s roll…

1) Obamacare will reduce the cost of our nations health care.  Obama made this claim several times on the campaign trail and in his push for passage of the bill.  But, according to a recent study released by government actuaries, highlighted by Jim Capretta of the Ethics and Public Policy Center who says the actuaries “made it very clear in their projections that the health care law did not bend the cost curve down. It bent it up,” he says, adding, “there will be increase in national health spending associated with the implementation of the health care law.”  In addition, a Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (“CMS”) report, states that the rate of growth in national health care expenditures will spike a bit in the middle years of the health reform plan. That’s when the provisions that result in 33 million more people getting health insurance will kick in. But in the later years of the 10-year projections, the rate of growth rises slower than under current law (albeit only slightly: in 2019, for example, it’s the difference between rising at a clip of 6.9 percent under the proposed plan as opposed to 7.2 percent under current law).

2) Obamacare will lower rates & premiums.  On the campaign trail (in 2007) Obama made this statement, “I will sign a universal health-care bill into law by the end of my first term as president that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family’s premium by up to $2,500 a year.”  Nancy Pelosi said this during the healthcare debate, “They will ask for repeal,” Pelosi said.”Repeal of all the things I said that help children, help young adults, help seniors, help men or women who may have prostate cancer, breast cancer, whatever it is, any precondition.  And everybody will have lower rates, better quality care and better access.”  Unfortunately, this was a lie then she says that she never said “everybody will have lower rates”.

There is a lot of conflicting information out there, however, the preponderance of conclusions based upon independent analysis point to higher premiums than a current policy, but more importantly in order to try and maintain your current coverage rates, your deductibles and co-pays are likely to be higher as well. Here is a report by Heritage that was just released that details the rise in rates and methodology behind their findings.

3) Obamacare will reduce the amount of the uninsured.  A Kaiser report details the uninsured and how Obamacare will help them be able to afford quality insurance coverage. reviews these claims of who the uninsured are and why they are uninsured.  But according to the CBO report released in August 2012, it said that Obamacare will leave 30 million uninsured.  So democrats changed 1/6th of our U.S. economy to supposedly help roughly 12 million who truly can’t afford insurance but we will end up making over our entire economy to still have 30 million (estimated) left to fend for themselves.  Now that is a bargain!

4) Obamacare will allow you to keep your healthcare plan and/or doctor.  Promise:  “First of all, if you’ve got health insurance, you like your doctor, you like your plan – you can keep your doctor, you can keep your plan. Nobody is talking about taking that away from you.” President Barack Obama 7/16/2009.  Lie Exposed:  CNN points out here a HHS official makes this statement:  “Depending on the plan you choose in the marketplace, you may be able to keep your current doctor,” a Health and Human Services official tells us, adding, “Different plans have different networks and providers…if staying with your current doctors is important to you, check to see if they are included before choosing a plan.”  According to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), by 2020, will have a doctor shortage of 90,000.  They show that by 2020 there will be a shortage of 45,000 primary care physicians, 46,000 surgeons and specialists and 250,000 physicians set to retire.

5) Obamacare will not add to the deficit. Promise: September 9, 2009, Obama addresses congress and declared, “I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits—either now or in the future.” Lie exposed: According to the Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, Obamacare will add $6.2 Trillion to the deficit over 75 years.

6) Obamacare is not a tax. The Supreme Court of the United States and the Chief Justice says otherwise.  Here is CNN’s article written after the law’s individual mandate (forcing you to purchase insurance or pay a ‘tax) was upheld as a tax, not a “fine” or “penalty” as Jay Carney says here even after SCOTUS ruling and in 2009 before passage here is Obama.

Video splice of the promises made and even some where statements are ‘walked back’ or denied were ever said.  Dr. Ben Carson, who should be at the forefront of any presidential list, in my opinion, had this to say recently as to the purpose of Obamacare.

And to cap it off, on the Obamacare Facebook page being “followed” by over 622,000, it’s post titled “OBAMACARE IS HERE” on October 1 when the exchanges were made available has been able to get a whopping 20,429 thumbs up in 16 days (at the time of this article).  But peruse the site and its 3,257 comments and you will be astonished at all those Obamacare supporters that are highlighting their utter frustration with the system the adored just 3 years ago, their increased costs and/or their reduced coverage options/higher deductibles because of the law.  Wait, you mean Utopia’s don’t exist even for the socialists?

I dial the clock back to 1953 and the oh so prescient Ronald Reagan warned us against a government take over of healthcare so many decades ago.

Anyone care to challenge me on how this train ride ends.
